Plan the whole move. $1,600: Illustrative moving target; − $400: Already reserved; ÷ 6: Contributions left; = $200: Each contribution. Invented educational example.
Invented amounts for education; actual terms and available cash determine your result. The actual Keel interface inset uses separate invented sample data. Open full-size image.

List costs by their actual due dates

Include the application, deposits, moving transport, supplies, utility setup and any overlap between homes. Check local and contractual terms rather than assuming every deposit or fee is standard. CFPB spending guidance encourages looking for infrequent expenses. A move is a good example of a concentrated cost that an ordinary monthly budget can overlook.[1]

Separate expected refunds from available cash

An old security deposit may arrive after the new costs are due, or its final amount may be uncertain. Keep it out of the funds already available until confirmed. Use a date-based plan to identify the busiest week. A move can be affordable in total while still creating a shortfall before a refund or paycheck arrives.[2]

Calculate a remaining-gap contribution

An invented moving target of $1,600 with $400 already reserved leaves $1,200. With six contributions before the costs fall due, the target is $200 each time. If the deadline moves earlier, recalculate. This illustration excludes changes in quotes and refunds; it is not a recommended moving budget.

Use Keel to connect goal and bill dates

Record a moving goal in Savings and put confirmed obligations into Bills. Check the forecast before transferring a large deposit or booking transport. Keel does not quote moving services, review leases or hold a rental deposit. Update the funded goal only when money is genuinely available and assigned to the move.

Recheck after committing to the move

Replace estimates with written quotes and actual dates. Keep room for a changed utility balance or additional transport cost. After the move, record final spending and reassign any unused reserve deliberately. Preserve the next normal rent payment instead of spending the remaining moving fund as though housing costs have ended.
